Sustainable development for soya production based on the field research carried out at the Variety Assessment Experimental Station of Głubczyce in th…
2018
The aim of this research was to determine the impact of various nitrogen fertilization systems in soya cultivation on quality and quantity of crop, as well as to examine the economic aspects of sustainable farming. The study was based on research carried out in the Variety Assessment Research Station of Głubczyce (years: 2015-2017). The soybean, protein and fat of four soya varieties (Glycine max (L.)Merrill) non-GMO (Augusta, Mavka, Aligator, Lissabon) were compared, using varying doses of N/ha (0, 30 and 60 kg). The cost effectiveness of the various fertilization doses was also determined. The soybean yields of the different soya varieties differed significantly, which indicates the exist…
Effect of nitrogen fertilizer level on quality and shelf-life of fresh cut Swiss chard
2018
Swiss chard (Beta vulgaris L. var. cicla L.) is a leafy vegetable highly appreciated in some areas for its nutritional properties and year round supply. Its production area is not commercially important, but this minor vegetable offers an interesting enlargement of the current vegetable assortment by using its stalks and leaves. Swiss chard is a very nutritive demanding species. The content of mineral elements, total quality and yield are influenced by the amount, frequency and method of fertilization. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of high or low levels of nitrogen fertilization on the quality and shelf-life of minimally processed Swiss chard. Plants grown with a high (18…
Effects of Plastic Mulching and Basal Nitrogen Application Depth on Nitrogen Use Efficiency and Yield in Maize
2018
The demand for increased grain production to support population and consumption growth has led to increased interest in field management approaches that incorporate plastic mulching and fertilization management. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of plastic mulching and basal nitrogen (N)-fertilizer application depth on N balance estimations, N use efficiency (NUE) and maize yield. The experiment was conducted in 2014 and 2015 with six treatments: no N fertilizer and no mulching (CK), traditional broadcast N fertilizer with mulching (T0), basal N-fertilizer application at a depth of 6 cm with no mulching (T1), basal N-fertilizer application at a depth of 6 cm with plas…
Physiological Aspects of Nitrogen Fertilizer Impact on Latvian Origin Cannabis Sativa L .
2015
The aim of the present study was to evaluate nitrogen fertilizer impact on photosynthesis and yield of hemp, applying modern non-destructive methods. The main object of the investigation – hemp cultivar of Latvian origin ‘Pūriņi’. Laboratory and field experiments showed diverse effects of different nitrogen fertilizer doses on various parameters. Additional nitrogen fertilizer dose of 60 kg ha-1 is most effective as evaluated by chlorophyll content in hemp leaves and changes of chlorophyll a fluorescence parameters. Nitrogen fertilizer negatively affected fiber content in hemp stems, therefore while cultivating hemp only for fiber production use of nitrogen fertilizer should be reduced. Acc…
Root uptake, storage and remobilisation of autumn applied nitrogen to kiwifruit (Actinidia deliciosa) vines
2000
2020
The main challenge of 21st century agriculture is to provide sufficient food for a growing to identify cropping systems which maintain crop productivity, minimize reliance on synthetic herbicides and nitrogen fertilizers, and promote weed diversity. We hypothesized that cropping system diversification, either at the annual scale through the introduction of cover crops, or at the plurennial scale through a diversification of the crop sequence and associated weed management tools, could be a viable means to reach these objectives. More specifically, we hypothesized that cropping system diversification could (i) contain weed abundance and thereby, allow a reduction of herbicide use and an incr…
Improvement of the nitrogen uptake induced by Ti(IV) supply in nitrogen stressed pepper crops
1996
The beneficial effect of titanium on plant metabolism can result in a more profitable use of fertilizers on many crops. An experiment was performed in a greenhouse with Capsicum annuum L. cv. Bunejo plants cultivated under different levels of nitrogen fertilization: 100% N — 250 N fertilizer units/ha (NFU); 75% N - 187.5 NFU; 50% N - 125 NFU; 25% N - 62.5 NFU. A third of the plants in each N support remained Ti-untreated and were used as a reference. Each of the other thirds received one and two 2 mg Ti/l, pH 6, leaf spray treatments respectively (35 ml/plant). Biomass production of the Ti-untreated references was only affected by N-supplies of 25%. Ti leaf spray treatments induced a biomas…
An Appraisal of Calcium Cyanamide as Alternative N Source for Spring-Summer and Fall Season Curly Endive Crops: Effects on Crop Performance, NUE and …
2020
A two-year study was conducted in both spring-summer and fall seasons to evaluate calcium cyanamide (CaCN2) as an alternative nitrogen (N) source for curly endive (Cichorium endivia L. var. crispum) grown in a Mediterranean environment. Four types of N applications were administered: (i) pre-transplanting base application of 100 kg N ha&minus
